Hello and welcome!
About Me
My name is Zhaohui Liang, and I’m a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. I work in the Connected & Automated Transportation Systems Laboratory (CATS Lab) under the guidance of Prof. Xiaopeng (Shaw) Li. My research focuses on intelligent transportation systems, including eco-driving control algorithms for sustainable mobility, the resilience of vehicle controllers under real-world disturbances, and the use of Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) as mobile sensing platforms for traffic state estimation and infrastructure evaluation. I’m also interested in integrating smart infrastructure with CAVs for cooperative mobility and traffic signal optimization, as well as applying telematics and big data analytics to improve transportation efficiency. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Harbin Institute of Technology, Weihai, in 2019.
I also go by Vito, a name inspired by my favorite character, Vito Corleone, from The Godfather—a film that has left a deep impression on me. While I don’t favor the violence depicted in the story, I greatly admire Vito’s wisdom, loyalty, and sense of responsibility. He symbolizes a model of leadership grounded in integrity and care for others. These values guide how I approach both life and research: success means more than achievement—it means staying true to your principles, supporting your community, and acting with purpose.
Outside of research, I’m a passionate enthusiast of racing vehicles (ironically, I study how to remove humans from the driving loop, but I absolutely love driving myself!). I’m also an active entrepreneur and the co-founder of DBB AUTO, a dealership specializing in performance and racing-focused vehicles.
